If you've had a sprain, strain, dislocation or fracture, it's referred to as an orthopaedic injury. This type of injury happens all the time, and may involve damage to various areas of the body, including arms, pelvis, legs, feet, hands and wrists.
The main orthopaedic injury cases we handle involve fractures.
Fractures are very common, but can be difficult to diagnose, and mistakes can be made. For example if a junior doctor in A&E hasn't spotted an abnormality on an x-ray, or referred it to a more experienced doctor, the injury could be missed. Also, not all injuries are diagnosable on x-ray, so it's important that doctors use other methods to rule out the possibility of fracture.
An example of this is a "scaphoid fracture" in the wrist. 10-15% of scaphoid fractures are not identified on routine x-rays. Doctors have to look for a certain area of tenderness which should point them towards a correct diagnosis.
Orthopaedic surgery frequently involves the insertion of components into the joints to stabilise them, such as hip replacements. If the surgery is not carried out correctly, it can result in on-going pain and limited mobility.
Whatever type of orthopaedic injury you've suffered from, if you feel your treatment hasn't been successful or appropriate, then let us know. We have the expertise to investigate and assess your case and help secure the compensation you deserve.
