Geraldine gives evidence to Iraq Inquiry
19/01/2010
The appearance of Geoff Hoon at the Iraq Inquiry has prompted Geraldine to submit evidence.
Geraldine has acted for the families of many soldiers who died in Iraq on a pro-bono basis including Lance Corporal The Horse, Matty Hull and Marines who died in a Sea Knight, March 2003. She also acted for the widow of Sergeant Steven Roberts, the first British solider to die in Iraq, in March 2003. Sergeant Roberts had to give up his enhanced combat body armour.
The Inquest into his death in Oxford Coroner's Court in December 2006 was adjourned after the Coroner, Mr Andrew Walker, gave permission for Mr Hoon or an appropriate other person, to give evidence with regard to the late ordering of this armour. The evidence was given the next day by a senior civil servant who referred to the tactical reasons why the armour had not been ordered earlier.
Geraldine has referred the Inquiry to this recorded factual evidence, which she believes is relevant to the issues before them and the appearance of Mr Hoon.
The Inquiry team did acknowledge the evidence on 1 February 2010 and have met with a number of our clients to hear their views.
